BC to QC charity drive for the Montreal children's hospital. |
8/24/2009
We finally crossed the Rockies and arrived in Calgary safe and sound. Although the Rockies are absolutely beautiful, the kindness we have received along the way has been even more moving.
Upon arriving in Calgary, we were welcomed by a local Albertan and his family. He is very supportive of our cause and opened his home to us.
We wan to thank Veso and his family for their warmth and friendship. We also want to thank all the others who have wished us well along the way.
We now make our preparations for crossing the Prairies. Our next major milestone will be the city of Winnipeg.

I am pleased to announce that on August 17th at 7AM Pacific time, the BCQC Ride for the Montreal Children's officially got underway. Gor and Iavor did their final gear check on the night before and were up with the sun to begin their 4700km journey across Canada last Monday.
I've heard from the guys twice this week and they've told me that everything is going well. This first week through the Rockies is probably the most challenging of the entire trip because of all of the uphills climbs that they have to make. For more details please visit www.expeditionlogs.com. I expect that Gor and Iavor will post a blog entry of their own in a couple of days with some fresh pictures from the road.
As for now, all I have are a couple of pics of the boys getting ready for the trip as well as some final pics of them biking off into the distance on Day 1.
Good luck guys!

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on what's been going on.
We had some great press coverage this week with an article in the West Island Chronicle by Hollie Watson. I've posted the article as a note here on Facebook. If anyone would like a PDF copy of the article just email me.
Goran and Iavor have been training hard to get ready for what is sure to be an arduous journey across the continent. I've heard more than a few words about sore feet, legs, backs from the both of them - a sure sign that the training is getting them both ready for the physical challenge that awaits. You can keep tabs on how their training and expedition preparations are going at www.expeditionlogs.com.
As far as the cause itself is concerned, we're now a few weeks into our fundraising efforts and new donations have been coming in almost daily. Thank you very much if you have made a donation to our cause. If you haven't, please try to so before the ride kicks off on August 17. As I've been telling people, we need all of the help we can get.
Finally, we're thinking of holding some kind of a party when Gor and Iavor return from the ride in late September. We'll keep everyone up to date on this as more details emerge. 6/19/2009
Things are moving along very nicely as we get closer to the official launch date for our donation drive. For the most part, the BCQC website is complete - in both official languages no less! All of the information that a prospective sponsor needs to engage with the Ride should be here, but just in case something is missing, please feel free to get in touch with me to let me know.
Goran and I will be meeting with representatives from the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation (MCHF), the hospital itself, and Covidien, (the company who makes the monitor that we're raising money for) on Monday morning to jump through the remaining bureaucratic hoops to make this an event officially sanctioned by the MCHF. Our hope, if everything goes according to plan, is that we will be able to begin accepting donations next week.
On the media front, we've been in touch with The West Island Chronicle who have agreed to do a story about our event. Pictures have been taken for the story and all that remains to be done is for the reporter to interview Gor. This should all happen next week as well. Once the Chronicle article is published at the end of the month I will try to use this local exposure to get into a publication with a wider circulation and that covers the entire Montreal region. The Gazette and La Presse will be at the top of my hit list so if anyone has contacts...
Thank you all for your continued support. 5/27/2009
Dear prospective sponsor,
The BCQC Ride for the Children's is a 31-day event being organized on behalf of the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation to raise money for a new Invos Cerebral/Somatic Oximeter. The ride itself as well as the fundraising drive is being run completely by dedicated individuals and volunteers who are committed to helping the Montreal Children's Hospital purchase this lifesaving equipment. So far, we have raised 1/3 of the total cost from individual and corporate donations and we believe that we can raise the entire amount by the time the ride is over in mid-September 2009.
The event that we are conducting to raise money is a bike ride from Vancouver, British Columbia to Montreal, Quebec. Two intrepid individuals, Goran Matic and Iavor Boev will begin their cross-Canada bike ride on August 17, 2009 in Vancouver and will arrive in Montreal approximately 31 days later. They will do this completely unassisted with no hotels, and no automobile backup and completely on their own expenses.
In order for our event to be a success, we need the help of individuals, companies, and organizations who believe in the cause of helping a great institution like the Montreal Children's Hospital save the lives of our society's most precious assets, our children. This information package provides an overview of our event, the people involved in making it happen, and the sponsorship opportunities available. Please review our material and if you are interested in sponsoring us or learning more we would love to hear from you.
Yours truly,
David Senik
